Insofar as the Look at the Princess trilogy having to end, I like how things panned out. The political intrigue parts, perhaps, weren’t as strong, because characters were rushing towards the finish line and getting tangled up in all sorts of confusions in trying to keep their heads (some did better than others. :P) Novia, as usual, ruled the planet with an iron fist. The “statue powers” were basically utilized or ignored whenever it served the plot. There was some stuff with Cargn that was perhaps kinda iffy, but that dude was in between a rock and a hard place anyway. Mostly he was around this episode for meta purposes—giving us backstory on Scorpy. But I feel like John and Aeryn had some strong character moments, romantic and otherwise. And the Moya subplot wrapped up in a satisfactory manner.
The strengths in this story have to do with the emotional connections between the characters, methinks, both our stars and even some of our guest stars. There were lots of scenes that centered on their desires, goals and sense of duty. Even real life connections—at the beginning of the trilogy Ben’s son made a guest appearance, and now his daughter. Will talk about that more under the cut. And the final scene (shippy J/Aness) has to be a fandom favorite. :P I think our takeaway from “Farscape”’s first trilogy is in line with John’s—that despite some cost, in the end “the good guys get to win for once.”
