Well this episode contains one of the most iconic scenes from “Xena,” which is not at all related to the plot. But major points for team subtext. :D

In fact, the plot of this episode was written quickly, to cover up Lucy’s pelvic accident (Xena didn’t appear for much of it, at least not in her own body. :P) It served as a good chance to come back to some familiar faces and arcs, from Iolaus to the Amazons and Ephiny.

But I gotta say that all of the returning guest stars paled in comparison to Bruce Campbell, who returned as Autolycus for some much-needed humor after the last episode. Kudos for that performance. It was nice, too, that Gabrielle wasn’t meant to be his goofy sidekick, but instead got to play up the drama. Welcome evolution for that character. Our new villain, Velasca, is a little hit and miss for me, but I did enjoy Melinda Clarke’s intensely self-assured performance.

Finally, for an episode that had to be written on the spot, it definitely sowed a lot of seeds! Expect some objects, and some promises, to make a comeback.
