You gotta give this show credit. It’s standard, necessary fare for serials to create world building back histories for their tv series’, but not everyone creates one for how the idea of the series came about. :P Robert Tapert sitting behind his “Executive Director” desk at the end looked a little bit like Joss Wheedon making a cameo, or at least Lorne Michaels walking in front of the SNL cameras.

And “Xena” does clip episodes good. :P Well, this one is a vast improvement over “Athens City Academy of the Performing Bards” where Gabs just recounted adventures to her boy toys. :P No, this time we get to fly into the future—cos why not have Xenaverse’s take on the Indiana Jones archeological exploits of World War II—and once again has the main cast playing new crazy, over the top characters. And I mean that in the best way!

Over all, creating this mythos—eg, where Xena, Gabrielle, Joxer and Ares “left things off” between ancient times and 1940—is bound to ultimately bear inconsistencies, given that the show will continue for four more seasons. But for what it’s worth, for mid-season two, it’s a great “possible future” for our favorite characters. (There will be other “future episodes” as well! Xenaverse opened this door of possibilities and then stepped right through it!)

Finally, what’s incredible about this episode is that it opened a bigger door than it even anticipated. Here this was supposed to be about expanding the “Xena” mythos to the present day, but it also opened the door to allow fans (particularly Melissa Good) to get involved in the action in a big way. I’ll explain more under the cut!
