It’s somewhat ye standard “It’s A Wonderful Life” knock-off, but the acting is so superb and the issues raised so central to the series that it’s easily one of the better episodes to date. Renee, in particular, does an incredible job disappearing into an almost unrecognizable Gabrielle and Lucy jumps through some hoops as well with Xena’s second chance. Also some nice continuity with repeat guest stars, yay! The three Fates can be tricky with the timeline; this isn’t the last time, either. We also get to see where Xena’s priorities lie, plus, perhaps more shockingly, a character long-dead since the before the beginning of the show. At its heart this one is largely a character study with the goofy dialogue and hi-jinks off to the sidelines. Well, most of the time. :P
